Employee-Owner Eligibility Details

  • Employee-owner can be employed by any Whitaker Holdings company

  • Employee-owners must be an active (1) full-time status employee and have been employed at Whitaker Construction for a minimum of six months at time of application submission.

  • Must be in good standing (2) at the time of fund disbursement.

 

Dependent Eligibility Details

  • A legal dependent under the age of 24 as defined by the IRS.

  • Pat was inclusive of everybody. While performing well in academic settings can be important, hardworking individuals that struggle with traditional grading systems shouldn't be excluded from opportunities. We encourage all to apply, and each applicant will be evaluated fairly and be given equal opportunities to be awarded the scholarship.

  • Must be enrolled in a recognized accredited educational institution within the United States (3).

  • Must be enrolled for their educational institution's next possible term (per their enrollment) as a full-time (4) or part-time (5) student. Proof of enrollment/class registration will be required before funds will be disbursed.

 

(1) Active status excludes employees on Leave of Absence (LOA).

(2) Cannot be on or have been on an HR-issued performance improvement plan within the last six months from the application submission and funding distribution

(4) Full-time or part-time student status is dependent on enrolled program requirements. 12 credits is traditionally considered full-time, however, check with your educational institution to see what they consider full-time or part-time status.

(5) Scholarships to part-time students will be one-half of a total award.

 

Document Requirements

An application is not considered complete until:

  • A transcript from the last high school or accredited institution is submitted. Electronic transcripts will be accepted. A screenshot of your most recent grades with your name and educational institution's header logo will be accepted but may be reviewed to prevent any potential misinformation. Any fees incurred for transcripts must be paid for by the applicant. We encourage all to apply, even if you've struggled with past academic performance. 

  • A letter of intent not to exceed 400 words from the dependent sharing your academic goals, personal achievement(s), and future career goals. You should also explain why the scholarship program is important to you and how it aligns with your career aspirations. 

  • A letter of recommendation. This must be less than one-year-old from the date of application submission. Letters of recommendation typically come from: teachers, professors, supervisors, school counselors, mentors, trainers, coaches, faith-based leaders, etc. The letter of recommendation must not be from a family member. 

  • A 500-600 word essay is submitted on a topic of your choosing from the provided list of options above.

Selection Process

The Scholarship Allocation Committee will thoroughly review all applications and essays to identify candidates who best align with our scholarship's core values and mission. After the application deadline, the Scholarship Allocation Committee will have up to three months to assess the submissions, conduct interviews, and make their final decisions. 

Once the recipients have been selected, they will be notified via e-mail or phone call. Recipients will also be invited to an acceptance dinner/award ceremony.  Additionally, the recipient's name and any relevant photos taken at the acceptance dinner/award ceremony will be shared on our website, social media platforms, and/or any other owned communications platforms.

Fund Disbursement:

The scholarship funds will be made payable to the recipient themselves. Each check will be disbursed before the beginning of each term. If awarded the scholarship for two terms, the recipient will receive two separate checks. For these recipients, proof of enrollment will be required before receiving the second check. The recipient will be responsible for any tax liability arising from the receipt of scholarship funds and will not be the responsibility of Whitaker Holdings.
